Mark -- Errors 231-237
#231
Mark 13: (KJV)
4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the
sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
Compare to:
Matthew 24: (KJV)
3 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the
sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
The preceding conversation was the prediction of the destruction of the
Temple. In answer to the question of Mark 13:4 Jesus talks about the coming
of false Messiahs and signs of the end of the age but the only previous
subject was the destruction of the Temple. Matthew changes
the question to add references to signs of Jesus coming and the end of
the world so that Jesus response fits the question which any man
should have been afraid to ask him in the first place.

Mark 13: (KJV)
6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many.
Compare to:
Matthew 24: (KJV)
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many.
Looks exactly the same in the KJV. Only problem is that in the Greek of
Mark there is no Christ in the above, it should
say, I am he, instead of I am Christ. The best
meaning of Mark is a prophecy of false Jesuses while the best meaning
of Matthew is a prophecy of false Messiahs. Mark is making it really tough
for believers. Say you see someone come in on the clouds who says he is
Jesus. How do you know hes not a false Jesus who was predicted to
deceive many by the real Jesus?

Mark 13: (KJV)
9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up
to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be
brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
Compare to Matthew 10: (KJV)
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils,
and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought
before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and
the Gentiles.
Matthew has added Gentiles to what Mark
wrote. Marks Gospel was mainly a Jewish thang. In Matthews
time it was clear that the Jesus movement had failed among the Jews and
that Christianitys future was with the Gentiles so Matthew rewrote
Marks story to make the Gentiles more prominent in Jesus supposed
plans.
#234
Mark 13: (KJV)
20 "And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh
should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath
shortened the days.
Compare to Matthew 24: (KJV)
22 "And except those days should be shortened, there should no
flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
Matthew generally refers to the god in heaven as Father and
to Jesus as lord and doesnt like to show Father acting
unilaterally so he has deleted Marks reference to the god in heaven
here.
#235
Mark 13: (KJV)
21 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall
shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
False prophecy. Mark is linking the start of this tribulation
to the abomination that causes desolation which is generally
thought to be the Roman occupation and then destruction of the Temple.
Everyone would agree that there have been lots of false Messiahs in the
last two thousand years but impartial and Christian observers would agree
that none of them shewed signs and wonders.
#236
Mark 13: (KJV)
30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass,
till all these things be done.
Im going to take a break on this one and let our special guest commentator,
Mr. McLaughlin, of The McLaughlin Group, tell us what kind of a prophecy
this was, Mr. McLaughlin?: Wroooong!.
#237
Mark 13: (KJV)
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached
throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken
of for a memorial of her.
Ill never forget good ol whatshisface.
