Luke -- Errors 369-375
#369
Luke 9: (KJV)
18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples
were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
The same story is told at Matthew 16:13 but by Matthew 16:13 all kinds
of stuff has already happened in Matthew, such as the sign of Jonah, that
had not yet happened in Luke.
# 370
Luke 9: (KJV)
27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which
shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
After about two thousand years I think its safe to say that this
was a false prophecy.
# 371
Luke 9: (KJV)
28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings,
he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
Compare to Mark 9: (KJV)
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James,
and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves:
and he was transfigured before them.
Luke sez 8 days later while Mark sez 6.
# 372
Luke 9: (KJV)
33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said
unto Jesus, Master,
Compare to Mark 9: (KJV)
5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master
Compare to Matthew 17: (KJV)
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord
Weve seen this before, different titles ascribed to Jesus for the
exact same conversation. Luke has master (gentile),
Mark has rabbi (Jewish, KJV has mistranslated
master) and Matthew has lord (messianic).
# 373
Luke 9: (KJV)
35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my
beloved Son: hear him.
Compare to Mark 9: (KJV)
7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came
out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
The textual evidence indicates that the beloved of KJVs
Luke 9:35 above should be chosen and this is the word used
by a majority of modern Christian translations.
# 374
Luke 9: (KJV)
37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were
come down from the hill, much people met him.
Compare to Mark 9: (KJV)
8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no
man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should
tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen
from the dead.
10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another
what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first
come?
12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth
all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer
many things, and be set at nought.
13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto
him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them,
and the scribes questioning with them.
Luke explicitly says that Jesus came down on the next day while the implication
from the same story in Mark is that Jesus came down before the next day.
# 375
Luke 9: (KJV)
43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while
they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his
disciples,
44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall
be delivered into the hands of men.
Compare to Matthew 17: (KJV)
22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The
Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
According to Luke Jesus makes a passion prediction at the end of the healing
story. According to Matthew this prediction comes later after the gang
has reached Galilee. Note that the manuscript evidence indicates that
KJVs abode above in Matthew should be gathering
making it clearer that the passion prediction in Matthew was given later
than it was in Luke.
