Mark -- Errors 154-160

#154

Mark 2: (KJV)

25 “And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?”

This is the same error (#70) that “Matthew” picked up from “Mark”. According to the account that Jesus is referring to here in the Tanakh, David was alone.

#155

Mark 2: (KJV)

26 “How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?”

I Samuel describes the meeting as follows:

I Samuel 21: (JPS)

2 “Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said unto him: 'Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?'”

So according to the Tanakh Ahimelech was the high priest at the time and not Abiathar. “Matthew” recognized “Mark’s” error and omitted the reference to Abiathar.

#156

Mark 2: (KJV)

26 “How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?”

As indicated above the account in the Tanakh indicates that David was alone so Jesus’ audience could not have read that David gave the shewbread to “them which were with him”. “Matthew” also recognized this error and omitted the explicit statement that David gave bread to those with him.

#157

Mark 3: (KJV)

14 “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,”

The two earliest manuscripts, Sinaiticus and Vaticanus add, “whom he also named apostles” after “twelve”. Later copists probably had a problem with Judas being designated as an apostle by Jesus.

#158

Mark 3: (KJV)

14 “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,”

Prior to Jesus ordaining the twelve “Mark” had already described the “Sabbath Plucking”, the “Withered Hand Healing”, and the “Multitude Healing”. But the author of “Matthew” presented these stories after the ordaining of the twelve in Matthew 10:1.

#159

Mark 4: (KJV)

31 “It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:”

The mustard seed is not the smallest seed. (The verse doesn’t pass mustard).

#160

Mark 5: (KJV)

1 “And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.”

Almost all other modern translations have Gerasenes which is supported by the earliest extant manuscripts. This is the same as error #63 made by “Matthew”. The area of Gerasa would not fit the physical requirements of the story which follows.

Star Of David Wars - Chapter 2

We continue our story in a small deli on the lower east side where our hero,
Lucy Skywalker, is having a little nosh with Yodayawawho?, spiritual leader
of the Rebellion, who will teach Lucy about the “Verse”. Personally, I
recommend getting your knish first at Maury’s, which is about three blocks
uptown and carrying it to this deli in your pocket. It’ll still be hot, not real hot,
but a little hot and once he gets to know you he won’t charge sales tax, but
don’t tell anyone I said so.

Yodayawawho?:
So, Lucy, what’s the conversion rate? Can you pass the relish tray?

Lucy :
Not so good. You’ve got a sesame seed stuck between your teeth.

Yodayawawho? :
Where have you been hanging out. Did I get it?

Lucy :
You know, the usual places, street corners, bus stations, airport
terminals and message boards. It’s still there.

Yodayawawho? :
Exactly how many converts do you have so far? You’ve got
mustard on your light saber.

Lucy :
Actually, none. But I do have one Grateful Dead T-shirt, two
pockets full of spare change and six hundred and sixty-six TOS
messages.

Be with us next week when Yodayawawho? reveals to Lucy the secret and
origin of the “Verse”.
